Republic of Rome – Update
Hello all,
US Customs has advised that the games need to be inspected. They advised us that the boat is being delayed into port due to back ups in other processes, when it arrives, some containers have been “selected” for examination even before they arrive. Ours was one of those lucky winners.
The process then will be that the ship is unloaded, and as soon as they can, they will drive the whole container into a X-ray machine and examine the contents. When they are satisfied, they will either decide to release it or start opening boxes for a better look. If they leave everything intact, then it should be a quite examination process and it should be on it’s way. If it goes the other way, then we are looking at more time for it to get to us.
In speaking with some other folks in the shipping industry about why boardgames would get selected they advised that there has been a real crack down on toys and games due to the issues from a year ago. That means everything gets inspected that shows as either of those descriptions, especially if it is coming in from China.
I’m sorry we don’t have a better explanation or an exact date of delivery, it could still be in the next week or so but it depends entirely on when they are released. The other issue is that our shipping warehouse closes down for the holidays, like most places of business do at this time of year, so it may be early January for delivery if it doesn’t get there quickly.
We had a similar issue in Dallas recently where we brought in games from Germany for BGG Con, most of you that were there know the amount of times I drove back and forth to the airport in my rent-a-truck to get the games, only to be told that they needed to be X-rayed.
We are trying to get the rules up on the website as well as on the Geek so that folks have a chance to go through them while they wait. Good suggestion Basiliv!
As soon as I hear more I will post it.
Torben

Can we espect the game to be receive before Christmas?
This game should have been printed in Canada. In my opinion, it would have been easyer to control the printing and it would have been faster to received the game considering you are a canadian company and we have some canadian publisher and printer that could do the printing.

Well, on a positive note, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Though as I say this, I realize I have an original copy of the game so I can always play that. I’m sorry things didn’t work out like you hoped it would, Torben, but not to worry, I’m still with ya, buddy! Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

Hi David,
Printing in Canada is not something we could do, there are very few printers that could even try this and the ones that do would charge a fortune. I mean we could have and charged $125 per copy but I bet sales wouldn’t go very well. In order to produce games at reasonable prices we had to look elsewhere.

Torben,
Thx for the steady stream of updates. Apparently, you failed to offer sufficient sacrifices to gain favor with the gods. Either that, or someone from a previous Valley Games release has an in with US Customs. |8<]

Maybe we should stop with the virgins and try something else, it couldn’t hurt…

There should be some law that says if a good company is trying to please people they should get a free ticket past customs.
Keep up the good work it is nice to get these updates.

Challenge them to a game of republic of Rome, and make a deal where whoever wins gets the entire shipment immediately.
Flawless victory.

Good idea with the rules, and I concurr this game is cursed, but anyway, I´m still with you, guys! Just keep feeding us on how things are going. I mean, frequently. Thanks!
